Adam Roberts (Dec. 4th, 1842 - Dec. 26th, 1913) was a prominent black resident of Jefferson, NC. After his discharge from the Union Army (119th US Colored Infantry) he returned to Jefferson to build and operate a grist mill and blacksmith shop. Adam boarded and employed former slaves and brought together the black community by building a colored church opposite his residence. He succummed to his war injuries and was laid to rest in Johnson City.
His legacy lives on today through his house constructed in 1880. The home is being restored and revived from the inside-out through the efforts of its current owners. This website is dedicated to the restoration of the Roberts House. You can find photos and news regarding the home and former occupants.
Please contact us if you have any historical information about the Roberts family or the house.
